Immigration troubles

Let's talk about immigration. There is a convoy of refugees in Mexico making their way to get into the U.S. President Trump has ordered troops to be posted to stop them from entering. These troops had to miss Thanksgiving with their families to protect the border. He has also given them the right to use force if necessary. This is a mess of problems that can be solved in a number of ways. First, build a wall from California to the bottom of Texas. We need a wall because there are thousands of illegal immigrants coming from Mexico each year. I am not saying that we should close our border to everyone but we should monitor who comes in to keep criminals and other bad entities from entering. No matter the cost, we need to secure our border. I agree with Trump on building a wall but I am not so sure on the cost. With a wall, we will be able to protect the border and not have to send troops to the border for security. Our immigration policy needs to change with the times. If there is one thing this country has, it is a problem with change. It takes forever for anything to change but our policy needs to change in a hurry. We are a country built by immigrants. We are all immigrants so it is hypocritical to close our borders due to our policy. We should accept all with open arms but keep an eye out for the bad apples in the bunch. We are a growing nation and there are still jobs that need to be filled. So I hope one day there is someone in the government who has the same views as me and is not afraid to create change.

commentary on "my vote won't make a difference"

I agree about why voting matters. It is our duty as citizens of this great nation to go out and vote, but at the same time we should be educated to vote. However, Texas has been known to be Republican for a long time so to say that "We are upon a huge race that could determine if Texas will go republican for the first time in many of our lifetimes, even bigger than that determine if our vote will turn the House of Representatives to democratic" is contradictory. If you're talking about the Beto vs. Cruz race, then you should just say so, but saying "a huge race" is just too vague due to the fact there were many races going on and many Democratic candidates in Texas running for office. To say that "This election could be the biggest aid to the possible realignment of our Nation and State" would mean that as a nation and as a state, there is one major issue we as a country are split upon. However, this is not what we are not going through because there are too many issues that need to be resolved like gun control, border security, and so on. Regardless, I completely agree that without social media that tries to appeal to the young adult crowd, voter turnout would be a lot lower. Voting is one of the first of many steps in the right direction to change this country for the better.

Gerrymandering is a no no

Gerrymandering is a dirty way to split up votes in the US. This method should not exist for many reasons. For one it is used to prevent change in the US because of one political party having too much power preventing change to occur. Second this method prevents votes from mattering if the vote is being taken and basically put in with an opposing parties district votes. Third giving the right to draw the district lines to a party is giving too much power to the political parties. If you look on a map today of any state in America there is evidence of Gerrymandering everywhere. A great example of this is Austin Texas which has been split apart in four different ways because of the way people tend to vote. Austin is known for being a hip city and being mostly democratic. The Republicans know this as well and have drawn the district lines so that Austin voters would not matter as much because the power of their vote has been watered down so in the long run they can have most of the seats in the House of Representatives. Is it too much to have a fair chance to win in this great country of ours? This method just makes things even harder for there to be change in America. This should not exist for all the reasons listed in this blog because it is hurting America. Change is slow in America already but this just prolongs it much more.
